In a 2021 survey, eleven percent of respondents in the United States stated that they had tried the keto diet within the past 12 months. Snack, energy, and granola bars are the low and no-carb food category that have seen the most sales growth in the United States. Chocolate and baking mixes that had low or no carb claims also experienced a great deal of growth, with 697 percent and 564 percent sales growth respectively. Between the years 2020 and 2050 overweight and related conditions are expected to account for 14 percent of health expenditure in the United States, a higher share than any other country worldwide.Consumer behavior
Many people claim to have had great success with the diet but a variety of reasons have lead some consumers to quit the keto diet. Some consumers reported that the regime was too strict to follow or simply that it was too expensive or too confusing. Others did not see the results they desired from the program. In the beginning of each year, keto gains popularity on Google in the U.S., as people begin to search for new diet programs to kick-start New Year's resolutions. This suggests that consumers will likely continue to be interested in trying the keto diet in the near future, although its popularity may be waning.
