Wayfair’s global net revenue jumped from around 600 million U.S. dollars in 2012 to more than 14 billion U.S. dollars in 2020, as the onset of the coronavirus pandemic drove a surge in e-commerce. That same year, the company delivered approximately 61 million orders, nearly double the order volume of the previous year. In 2022, Wayfair experienced a decrease in annual revenue, generating approximately 12 billion U.S. dollars.
A market leader in a leading market
Wayfair is a prominent player in the booming U.S. e-commerce market. It ranks amongst the leading e-commerce retailers in the United States, holding a share of 1.1 percent of the entire U.S. online shopping market. With about 8.8 billion U.S. dollars in furniture and appliances e-commerce sales, Wayfair ranked fourth nationwide in this segment, where it is only surpassed by Amazon, Home Depot, and Walmart based on estimated e-commerce sales.Although Amazon is the undisputed leader of North American e-commerce – with almost eight out of ten U.S. shoppers buying something on Amazon – Wayfair also ranked among the most commonly purchased online brands by American consumers. This is also true in markets outside the United States. Indeed, Wayfair ranks among the leading e-commerce brands in Canada.
